Medicare Plans Compared by Independent Local Advisors
Whether you're turning 65 or reconsidering a plan that stopped working, our team of four licensed Medicare specialists, based in Morgantown, compares every option available in your county — with no cost and no carrier to answer to.
If you've searched for Medicare insurance, you've probably found no shortage of results — national aggregators, carrier websites, and comparison tools all competing for the same click. What most of them don't offer is a conversation with someone who knows your zip code, your local hospital networks, and the plan options actually available in your county.
Working with a local independent Medicare advisor means the comparison starts with your situation, not a national average. Our team is based in Morgantown, and we use the RetireFlow intake tool to capture your zip code, your medications, and the doctors you want to keep — then we pull every plan available in your area and walk you through the options. No steering toward whichever carrier pays us the most.
The Four Medicare Plan Types
Every Enrollee Should Understand

Medicare Advantage Plans
Medicare Advantage replaces Original Medicare through a private carrier approved by CMS. Most plans bundle prescription drug coverage and often include additional benefits like dental, vision, and hearing. Premiums can be lower than supplement plans, but provider networks are narrower. If your preferred doctors are in-network, Advantage plans can offer strong value.

Medicare Supplement Plans
Medicare Supplement plans, also called Medigap, work alongside Original Medicare to cover the cost-sharing gaps that Original Medicare leaves behind — deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. Supplement plans are accepted by any provider that takes Medicare nationwide, which matters for people who travel frequently or want flexibility in choosing specialists.

Prescription Drug Plans (Part D)
Part D plans provide standalone prescription drug coverage for people on Original Medicare who aren't enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage. Plan formularies and costs vary significantly by carrier and by county. Choosing the wrong plan, or skipping it, can result in substantial out-of-pocket costs and a late enrollment penalty that follows you indefinitely.

Hospital Indemnity Plans
Hospital indemnity plans pay a fixed cash benefit for each day you're hospitalized. They work alongside Medicare Advantage to offset out-of-pocket costs that Advantage plans don't fully cover — inpatient copays, deductibles, and other cost-sharing that adds up quickly during a hospital stay.

What Are the Medicare Enrollment Windows, and What Happens If You Miss One?
Missing an enrollment window doesn't just delay your coverage. It can trigger permanent late enrollment penalties or leave you on the wrong plan for an entire year before you can make a change. Knowing which window applies to your situation is the first step.
Step 1: Initial Enrollment Period (IEP)
Your IEP is a 7-month window that opens three months before the month you turn 65 and closes three months after. This is your first opportunity to enroll in Medicare Part A, Part B, and a prescription drug or supplement plan. Enrolling within this window avoids late enrollment penalties.
Step 2: Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)
AEP runs from October 15 through December 7 each year. During this window, anyone already on Medicare can switch plans, add drug coverage, or move between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare. Changes made during AEP take effect January 1.
Step 3: Special Enrollment Period (SEP)
If you're still covered by an employer plan at 65, you can delay Medicare enrollment without penalty. When that employer coverage ends, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. Other qualifying life events — such as moving to a new county — can also trigger an SEP.
We track enrollment windows for every client on our books. If you're approaching a deadline or unsure which window applies to your situation, call us before it closes.

Why Medicare Plan Options Vary
Depending on Where You Live
Medicare Advantage and Part D plan availability is tied to your county of residence, not just your state. Two people living 30 miles apart may have access to entirely different plan lineups, different carrier networks, and different premium structures.
In the Morgantown area, residents typically have access to plans that include WVU Medicine and Mon Health in their provider networks — two of the most important health systems in the region. Whether a specific plan covers your preferred doctors and hospitals is one of the first things we check before recommending anything.
Senior health insurance also varies by income eligibility. West Virginia's Medicaid program may cover some or all Medicare premiums for qualifying individuals, and Extra Help programs exist for prescription drug costs. We can help you determine whether you qualify and factor that into your comparison.
Get a Plan Comparison Built Around Your Zip Code, Your Doctors, and Your Prescriptions
The RetireFlow intake form captures the three things that actually determine which Medicare plan fits you: where you live, what medications you take, and which doctors you want to keep seeing. Once we have those, we pull the options available in your county and walk you through the comparison at no cost.
Common Medicare Questions From Clients Across Our Coverage Area
What Medicare plan options are available to me?
Depending on your county of residence, you can typically choose from Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplement plans paired with standalone Part D coverage, and hospital indemnity plans for additional cost protection. Plan availability varies by county, and the specific carriers and networks available to you depend on your zip code. We pull every option in your area and compare them side by side.
How do I choose between Medicare Advantage and a Supplement plan?
The Medicare Advantage vs. Supplement decision comes down to your health situation, preferred doctors, budget, and how often you travel or see specialists. Advantage plans often carry lower premiums but narrower networks. Supplement plans offer broader access — any Medicare-accepting provider in the country — but typically come with higher monthly premiums. We work through both options with every new client before making any recommendation.
Who helps seniors sign up for Medicare?
Cilella Insurance is a team of four licensed Medicare specialists based in Morgantown, WV, serving clients across 14 states. We've helped over 500 clients navigate Medicare enrollment, plan selection, and Annual Enrollment Period reviews. There's no cost to work with us — we're compensated by the carrier after you enroll.
What happens if I miss my Medicare enrollment window?
Missing the Initial Enrollment Period can result in a late enrollment penalty on your Part B premium — a 10% increase for each 12-month period you were eligible but didn't enroll. Part D carries its own separate penalty. Some missed windows can be addressed during AEP; others require a qualifying Special Enrollment Period. If you're unsure where you stand, call us before assuming you've missed your chance.
Does Medicare cover my WVU Medicine or Mon Health doctors?
It depends on the plan. Both WVU Medicine and Mon Health are included in many Medicare Advantage networks in the Morgantown area, but not every plan covers both. Original Medicare paired with a Supplement plan is accepted by any provider nationwide that takes Medicare, which removes network restrictions entirely. Before we recommend anything, we verify that your preferred providers are covered.
